Von Tauben Spatzen was founded by Sarah Maria Schmidt, a sustainable fashion designer and circular material researcher based in Berlin. Sarah focuses on creating garments with responsibility and healthy materials inspired by Cradle to Cradle®. She helps brands in improving their material portfolio and sustainable design strategies. At  Von Tauben Spatzen we work closely with the principles of the Cradle to Cradle® design agenda, analysing materials regarding material health and their circular potential in order to produce and design with clean and safe materials.

Since 2008 Sarah has worked as a designer with a strong focus on craftsmanship and unconventional materials in different areas within the fashion industry and realised through first hand experience the urgent need to design in more responsible, sustainable and transparent ways. Sarah holds the degrees Sustainability in Fashion (MA) from Akademie Mode & Design Berlin and a joint Double Degree Design/ Fashion Design (BA) from University of Applied Arts Schneeberg and Bachelor of Culture and Arts from University of Applied Sciences HAMK in Finland.

She has worked as a freelance designer and "Circular Materials and Design Lead" at Beneficial Design Institute GmbH. With her keen sense for deep and academic research Sarah shapes visions for systemic, positive change.

Her works have been exhibited in Berlin during Fashion Week as well as at German Fashion Council. Sarah was granted a hessnatur Foundation scholarship to support her studies in MA Sustainability in Fashion and was nominated in the finalist selection for Federal German Ecodesign Award 2019.
